RM EasyLink Internet Service Provider Information

Information for RM EasyLink customers
Information for 3rd Party ISPs & Broadband Suppliers

Information for RM EasyLink customers

This section is intended to provide Internet Service Provider (ISP) information to RM EasyLink customers.

Customers with an RM Internet for Learning (IfL) Internet connection

If RM IfL is your Internet Service Provider, all of the required services detailed in the Installation Prerequisites section (with the exception of CLIP) can be supplied by IFL. To arrange for the activation of these services, please complete the Fax Back form provided with your EasyLink documentation. If you have ordered an EasyLink Installation service from RM, you will be contacted by your Installations project co-ordinator.

Customers with an Internet connection provided by a 3rd Party ISP

If your ISP is NOT RM IfL, you should contact them BEFORE your planned installation date to set up the services detailed in the EasyLink Installation Prerequisites section. You may choose to use the EasyLink Fax Back form or refer your ISP to the Information for 3rd Party ISPs & Broadband Suppliers section below.

RM cannot guarantee that access to the EasyLink web server will be possible using all internet connections provided by 3rd party Internet Service Providers. As such, RM cannot be responsible for any incompatibility between RM EasyLink and a non-RM ISP system.

Customers who use DIALnet as their Internet Service Provider should note that access to the EasyLink web server using DIALnet’s filtered Internet service is not possible. DIALnet also provide a filtered service that will allow access to the EasyLink web server.

Information for 3rd Party ISPs & Broadband Suppliers

The information in this section is intended for Internet Service Providers and Broadband suppliers who have received a request from an establishment (school or college) to configure services for RM EasyLink.

What is RM EasyLink?

RM EasyLink is a secure website hosted on one of the establishment’s servers.

What services need to be established to allow EasyLink to work?

  1. Port 443

Port 443 on the firewall must be open in both directions to allow secure traffic through.

  1. An additional DNS address record for the site.

  2. This will normally be in the format folders.<establishment-domain-name> and will map to the IP address of the establishment’s EasyLink server, or to the external IP address of their multi-homed proxy or firewall server.

Where private IP addresses are in use behind the ISP’s firewall, or Network Address Translation (NAT) is enabled at the establishment’s router, a static public facing IP address will need to be configured for address translation at the firewall or router.

  3. Router DialBack support to enable the line to be raised by the ISP. (Non-permanent connections only).

  4. Router DialBack support needs to be configured to allow the line to be raised when requests for the website are received. This will prevent any call charges being incurred by the Internet Service Provider. For example, this can be achieved with ISDN dial-up connections using the CLIP protocol on the ISDN line, DialBack configuration on the router and the use of a radius server.

  5. Static IP on the external interface of the establishments’ router.

EasyLink will not operate with DHCP routers.

Should you require any additional information or wish to ask a specific question regarding the configuration of EasyLink services, you can send an email to ispinfo@rm.com
