Software Restriction Policies: overview

The Software Restriction Policies enable you to create rules (a collection of settings) that allow or deny users the ability to run program files.

In the RM Management Console, the Software Restriction Policies area is located beneath Software. When Software Restriction Policies is selected in the left-hand pane, the software restriction rules are displayed in the right-hand pane.

You can create the following rules:

Path rule to control access to any file run from a specified path.
File rule to control access to a specified file.

These settings are enforced on computers set to the Standard and Advanced security levels, and they apply to all users by default. Software restrictions are not enforced on any computer which has no security set.
