Exporting a policy

You can export a policy to create a backup file for safe-keeping, as a way to transfer the policy to another network, or to add a custom setting. You might want to consider exporting the current version of a policy for safe-keeping before you edit it or add a custom setting.

When you export a policy, all the files relating to the policy are compressed and saved in a single file with a .cab extension.

To export a policy

  1. From the left-hand pane, expand Picture of the Registry Policies icon Registry Policies, and then expand either Picture of the Computer Policies icon Computer Policies or Picture of the User Policies icon User Policies. You may need to expand folders in the left-hand pane to display the name of the policy.

  2. From the left-hand pane, right-click the policy and from the menu, choose Export.

  3. In the Export Policy window, browse to the location you want to store the exported policy. By default, exported policy files are saved on the server in the folder D:\RMNetwork\RMManage\Type Manager\Export.

  4. Optionally, type a new name for the exported policy.

  5. Click Save.
