Summary
How to best position the RM One PC in a classroom or open access area.
Requirements
The RM One is designed to maximise desk space without compromising performance or functionality. In order to ensure good thermal and acoustic characteristics, the RM One has been developed to allow air to flow in and out of the case around the hottest components. The rear cover of the RM One (v1 and v2) has three major ventilation points. These are positioned at the rear, left-hand and right-hand sides of the system.
Note: Placing an RM One against a wall or partition, or placing RM One PCs back to back will result in re-circulating hot air. This may cause the RM One to become noisy as the fans work harder to cool the components, or even cause the system to shutdown if it exceeds its maximum temperature limit.
RM One v3
On the RM One v3 the entire back panel has ventilation holes. RM One v3's do not need to be 'staggered' in arrangement, but there should be a minimum gap of 10cm between them or between the back of one and a wall or other obstruction.
Procedure
The RM One should be positioned at least 10cm (4") away from a wall or opposite RM One. If the wall surface has cable trunking which obstructs air flow from the rear (eg it is at the same height as the rear ventilation outlet), then the RM One should be positioned at least 10cm (4") away from the trunking.
RM One v1 and v2 only: If facing another RM One, the systems should be offset by 12cm (5") so that hot air is not directed back into the opposite RM One. See the diagram below.
