Information on Using Graphs in RM Number Magic

Overview :

A chart or graph is a way to visually display a set of numbers.  Each Worksheet can have one graph associated with it.  There are eleven different types of graph available. This document includes information on Axis, Colour, Layout and Type formatting for graphs

2D and 3D    You can display the graph in 2D or 3D format

Data Series in Rows    By ticking the Data Series in Rows box, the data is grouped by columns and plotted as rows, and vice versa.

Formatting a Graph

Available in all levels.

Formatting a graph uses the Graph Wizard. You can change the appearance of your graph.

A preview of your graph is shown on the right-hand side of the Graph Wizard dialog box, and your changes will be displayed.

The dialog box has four tabs, enabling you to:

Gallery: change the type of graph displayed.

  1. Choose 2D or 3D by clicking on the appropriate icon.
  2. Select the type of graph by clicking on a graph icon. Use the Graph preview to see what your graph looks like.
  3. If you want the graph plotted so that it plots data by rows in columns then click Data series in rows box.

Layout: add labels (e.g. title) to your graph.

  1. Click on the Layout Tab.

TITLE
  1. Click in the box beneath Title:
  2. Type in the title of your graph.
FOOTNOTE
  1. Click in the box beneath Footnote:
  2. Type in any footnotes you have for your graph.
LEGENDS (KEY)
  1. Click 00000065.gif in the box beneath Legends:
  2. Choose where you want the legend to appear by selecting top, bottom, left or right.
GRIDLINES
  1. Put a tick in the X-Axis box if you want X-axis grid lines to be visible.
  2. Put a tick in the Y-Axis box if you want Y-axis grid lines to be visible.
FONT You can change the font of the text displayed on the graph.
  1. Click the Font Button

The Font standard dialog box is displayed.

 

Axis: label the axis of your graph.

  1. Click on the Axis Tab.

  1. Click in the box beneath X-Axis: then type in the label of your X-axis.
  2. Click in the box beneath Y-Axis: then type in the label of your Y-axis.
  3. (3D graphs) Click in the box beneath Z-Axis: then type in the label of your Z-axis.
  4. (Bar Line graphs) Click on the drop down arrow of the Series for Line.

    Select which column/row you wish to appear as a line on the bar line graph.

Colour: change the colours used to display the graph information.

  1. Click on the Colour Tab.

  1. Click on the area of the graph that is to be given a different colour by clicking on graph data or select whole series from the legend.
  2. Click on the new colour that you want this area to be from the Colour Palette. The area will change to your new colour.
  3. Repeat these two steps with the different areas of the graph until you are happy with the colour of all of them.
  4. You have now completed the formatting of your graph, however you can return to any tab and make further changes. Click on the appropriate tab.
  5. Click OK to save your changes.
  6. The graph will now contain all the changes that you have made.
  7. If you click Cancel. You will leave the Graph Wizard and any changes will not be saved.
