Resetting a user's profile

A user profile is a set of files used by Windows to provide the user's desktop when they log on to a computer in the network. Occasionally, a user's profile can become corrupted by programs. Should this happen, you can fix the problem by resetting a user's profile to return the profile to its default state.

To reset a user's profile

  1. From the left-hand pane, expand Picture of the Users icon Users and choose All Users.

  2. From the right-hand pane, right-click the user and, from the menu, choose Reset Profile.

  3. To confirm the reset, click Yes.

A check is carried out to ensure all the appropriate folders and files are present for the user's account, and any that are missing or corrupt are restored or replaced.

Notes

  • Resetting a user profile will lose any customised settings the user has made to their computer, except for files they have placed on their desktop.

  • You can use the same process to reset multiple users. First, select all of the users that you want to manage.

  • You can also carry out this task from the RM Management Console Start page. Click the Users icon Picture of the Start page Users icon and, from the list of tasks, select 'Reset a user's profile'. Use the Select Item window to select the user you want to manage.
