Managing user folders: overview

User folders represent the location of the user in your network.

A user folder is associated with a user template, and any folders or users you add to a user folder will inherit those user template properties, unless you specify a different template. Users can have different properties from other users in the same folder. Changing user template properties will not automatically change the properties for the users currently in the associated user folder. However, any users that you add to the folder can inherit the new user template properties.

To view the default template associated with a specific user folder, right-click the user folder in the left-hand pane, and from the menu, choose Properties.

The RM Management Console includes a selection of top-level user folders for you to use. You can also create your own hierarchy of user folders to reflect your establishment structure, keeping together all users with similar requirements in a user folder with a meaningful name. This simplifies your tasks by letting you manage the user folder rather than individual user accounts.

Notes

  • You cannot create, delete or rename an RM-supplied top-level user folder, only folders you create within a top-level folder.

  • The naming conventions for the user folders in your establishment may reflect, for example, age ranges, classes, study groups, projects or types of users.
