Exporting items

You can export data, such as a list of computers, to create a readily-available backup of important data, or to move data to a different server.

You can export data in one of the following formats:

If you want the column headings to be included with the data you are exporting, you can choose to include a header row in your exported file.

To export items

  1. Select the items, or the items from a list, that you want to export and, from the toolbar, choose Picture of the Export button Export.

  2. In the 'Export to' section, type the name of the file you want to export to. Alternatively, use the Browse button to find the correct location for your export file, type a file name, choose the file type, and click Save.

  3. When you have specified text format for the export file, in the Options section, choose a delimiter for the data. This can be a Tab, or a character such as a comma.

  4. Confirm whether the data contains a header row by ticking the box.

  5. Click OK.

On successful completion of the export, the export file is created in the specified location.

Notes

  • You can export a group of items only when they are of the same type, for example a list of users. When you try to export a mixed-type list, you are asked to choose the type.

  • Only the columns being displayed in a list will be exported. To change which values are exported, first change the configuration of the list.

  • If errors occur during the export validation part of the process, you will be prompted to handle these errors.

  • Export is also available by choosing Export from the File menu.
