Description
When a user tries to launch Gmail or any other Google services on a tenancy with 2-Step Verification enabled and enforced, they are prompted to enrol in 2-Step Verification. They will be allowed to skip the enrolment process till the grace period ends, after which their logons will be denied.
Procedure
To enrol in 2-Step Verification, follow the procedure given below:
Launch Gmail and enter the user account credentials.
Click ENROL.
You will be prompted to enter the password again. Enter the password and click Next.
Please provide your phone number and select your choice of getting codes - text message or call.
Click NEXT.
Enter the code received and click NEXT.
To turn on 2-Step Verification, click TURN ON.
In the screen that appears next, you can enable more ways to provide 2-Step Verification (optional).
If you would like to set up Authenticator app, under 'Authenticator app', click SET UP.
Based on the mobile device you are using, click the Android or iPhone radio buttons.
Click NEXT.
After installing the Authenticator app on your device, open the app and scan the barcode displayed on the screen.
Click NEXT.
Enter the code as displayed in the Authenticator app and click VERIFY.
To complete the Authenticator app configuration, click DONE.
The next time you log on, you can either use the Authenticator app code or SMS code by selecting the 'Try another way' option. 2-Step Verification method defaults to Authenticator app if it is configured.
