Managing Groupcall Xporter on a new or upgraded SIMS server
Published Date : 17 Apr 2019   Last Updated : 02 May 2023   Content Ref: TEC6761110

Symptoms

You are using Groupcall Xporter v4 to extract and upload MIS data from your local SIMS server to RM Unify and one of the following applies:

  • Operating system upgrade: you are upgrading the existing SIMS server's operating system.
  • SIMS Migration: you are migrating (detaching and re-attaching) the existing SIMS database to a new SIMS server.
  • New SIMS installation: you are completing a fresh installation of SIMS, including new database, on the SIMS server.

Please see the relevant section below on how to re-configure Groupcall Xporter.

Requirements

Operating system upgrade

You are planning to complete an in-place upgrade of the existing server's operating system, e.g. upgrading from Microsoft® Windows Server® 2008 R2 to Windows Server 2016.

If Groupcall Xporter is already installed and working, then the existing Xporter functions will be retained and no re-installation of Groupcall Xporter is required.

SIMS Migration

SIMS has been installed on a new server and the existing SIMS database is migrated (detached and re-attached).

As the existing SIMS database has simply been moved over, the user MIS ID values within the MIS database will be unchanged. There are two options for installing Groupcall Xporter on the new server:

  • Option 1 - Groupcall Xporter was previously only running the RM_Unify job

Install Groupcall Xporter as usual, please refer to DWN4153727 in the Other Useful Articles section below.

  • Option 2 - Groupcall Xporter was previously running multiple jobs for multiple partners

Contact Groupcall's Xporter support team and ask for migration assistance. They will provide further instructions on how to prepare your old and new SIMS server for Xporter migration and help you complete the migration with a remote session on your new server.

New SIMS installation

SIMS has been reinstalled on the existing server or freshly installed on a new server. A new SIMS database was created and the existing SIMS database and content was not migrated over. In this case, student and staff users in SIMS are assigned a new MIS ID by the fresh installation. If the MIS users were previously uploaded to RM Unify from the old SIMS installation, then we need to help you match the existing MIS users in RM Unify to the new MIS IDs being uploaded by Groupcall Xporter. Please contact the Cloud Support team for further assistance.
