How to protect directories with a password within the website hosted on the RM Windows web hosting platform

Symptoms

Within the website hosted on the RM Windows web hosting platform, a section of the website should be secured from general access, requiring a password to access.


Requirements

An active web hosting account on the RM Windows web hosting server running Plesk.


Procedure

Create password protected directory
  1. Log on to your Plesk hosting account using the details sent to you when the account was configured. If you are unsure of these details, please contact the helpdesk who will be able to resend or reset your logon details.
  2. Select the 'Websites & Domains' tab.
  3. Select the Dashboard tab, scroll down to Security and click 'Password-protected Directories'.
  4. Click Add Protected Directory.
  5. Fill in the form with the required directory path. (This is the path following the domain name which you would like to secure, e.g. www.school.sch.uk/main/secure enter/main/secure.)
  6. Click OK.

Add users to access a password protected directory
  1. Once logged on to Plesk, follow the procedure above to navigate to the 'Password-protected Directories' section.
  2. Select the directory to which you would like to change the logon details.
  3. Click Add New User.
  4. Fill in the form and click OK.
