Moving from SIMS to SIMS Connected with RM Unify MIS Sync enabled
Published Date : 18 May 2023   Last Updated : 20 Sep 2023   Content Ref: TEC9159660

Symptoms

You have RM Unify MIS Sync configured and extracted from your on-premises SIMS server but are moving to SIMS Connected (the cloud-hosted version).

Cause

No internal IDs will change within your SIMS data. So, the process to 'migrate' to SIMS Connected is relatively straightforward, principally consisting of re-configuring Groupcall Xporter to sync from your new cloud-hosted SIMS database.

For this reason, the process can be carried out by the RM Unify admin or your school's usual IT support provider. There is no charge from RM involved.

Requirements

Once ESS have confirmed that the migration of your school's MIS data to SIMS Connected has been completed, proceed with either Procedure 1 or 2 below as appropriate.

Procedure

1. Your school uses the locally-installed Groupcall Xporter
  1. Log on to the server or computer hosting Groupcall Xporter, open the Xporter Management Console and click Jobs.
  2. If you only have the 'Dashboard-Heartbeat' and 'RMUnify-Data' jobs listed, you can navigate to Control Panel, Programs (or 'Programs and Features'), search for 'Groupcall Xporter <version number>' and click Uninstall.
Note: At this point, your MIS will no longer be syncing with RM Unify.
  3. If you find other jobs listed, e.g. Eclipse or Satchel One software, etc., you must not uninstall Groupcall Xporter. Instead, navigate to Control Panel, Programs (or 'Programs and Features'), search for 'Groupcall Xporter, RM Unify Jobs' and click Uninstall. This will uninstall only the RM Unify job and leave your other jobs running.
Note: At this point, your MIS will no longer be syncing with RM Unify.
  4. Please see TEC6393775 in the Other Useful Articles section below to reinstall Groupcall Xporter for SIMS Connected. Once complete, your MIS will resume syncing with RM Unify.

2. Your school uses Hosted Xporter

If you currently use Hosted Xporter, where Groupcall host the installation of Xporter for you on their servers (i.e. there is no local install), you can ask Groupcall to simply switch the existing configuration to use SIMS Connected.

Alternatively, if you wish to move to the locally installed Xporter, then once Groupcall disable Hosted Xporter, you can follow TEC6393775 in the Other Useful Articles section below to install Groupcall Xporter on your network for SIMS Connected.

In either case, please log a support case with Groupcall to request the desired work.
