RM Unify AD Sync assigns the wrong email address override to an RM Unify user
Published Date : 14 Sep 2022   Last Updated : 04 Oct 2024   Content Ref: TEC8709355

Symptoms

You are using RM Unify AD Sync to provision your RM Unify user accounts. You have configured your AD filters to assign an email override for the users rather than accept the RM Unify default email address.

Rather than assigning the desired email address (as stored in the user's chosen AD attribute), another user's email address is assigned instead.

A typical example is:

  • Mail attribute functionality enabled in your AD Sync AD filter
  • AD user AB has A.Broad@email.com assigned as an email override
  • AD user Abigail.Zeitgeist has Abi.Zeitgeist@email.com assigned as an email override

When the issue occurs, both AB and Abigail.Zeitgeist users will be assigned the Abi.Zeitgeist@email.com email address in the AD Sync database. Once this is synced to RM Unify, both the accounts will attempt to claim the same email address, resulting in one of them getting a '1' appended email. One user will get the Abi.Zeitgeist@email.com email address and the other will get Abi.Zeitgeist1@email.com (please note '1' appended to the email address).

Cause

The undesired email address is assigned due to a defect in RM Unify AD Sync v4.

Procedure

It is not yet known when or if an updated version of AD Sync will be released to resolve this issue. Instead, the current advice is for the RM Unify admin to opt out of AD Sync email attribute functionality and to use the RM Unify Management Console to set the desired email overrides.
