RM Unify creates Parent group in Google Workspace despite there are no Parent users

Symptoms

You have federated Google Workspace to RM Unify and installed the app to any or all of the following roles:

  • Students
  • Teaching Staff
  • Non-Teaching Staff
  • Governors
  • Other

It is not possible to install for the Parents role, as Google allows free Google Workspace licences to apply only to those attending the school as staff or students.

Despite this, when you look in Google Workspace you see a '<sitename> - Parents' group present.



Cause

The group is created unintentionally, due to a defect within the Google Workspace app.


Procedure

The group can be manually deleted by following the steps below:

  1. Log on to your Google Admin Console as a Super Admin user.
  2. Select Groups.
  3. Select the group named '<sitename> - Parents', e.g. 'SchoolA - Parents', to view full details of the group.
  4. Select Delete Group. Select Delete Group again to confirm.
