Summary
Explains how staff users can edit their own display names from the RM Unify default.
Symptoms
You have Teaching and Non-Teaching Staff accounts provisioned in RM Unify either via MIS Sync in Create mode, or by using RM Unify AD Sync and MIS Sync in Link mode (and linking the network account to the MIS record). The RM Unify display name appears in the format <title><first initial>.<last name> (e.g. Mr K. Lamar) and is then passed on to all installed apps, such as Microsoft® 365™.
Cause
The display name format for users created via RM Unify MIS Sync, or for those linked to their MIS record, is hard-coded into RM Unify.
Requirements
Users can, on an individual basis, follow the Procedure below to change their display names.
Note: It is not currently possible for an admin (or any other user) to make this change on a user's behalf. Also, it is not possible to bulk change users' display names.
Procedure
It is possible for Teaching and Non-Teaching Staff users to change their display names directly in RM Unify by following the process below:
While logged on to RM Unify, click your username in the top right-hand corner.
From the drop-down menu, select My Profile.
On the Account Details page, click the pencil icon next to your display name.
Change your display name to the desired and click Save.
Checks
You will need to log off and back on for the change to take effect in the RM Unify Launch Pad, Management Console, etc. but the display name update messages will be sent immediately to all the connected apps (Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, etc.). Although, they may take a few minutes to be processed.
