How to run a 'resync with deletes' from the RM Unify AD Sync Config Tool
Published Date : 19 Dec 2016   Last Updated : 04 Oct 2024   Content Ref: TEC5476566

Cause

What does a 'resync with deletes' do?

The RM Unify AD Sync Config Tool will upload the users that are currently showing in each AD filter's user container to RM Unify. RM Unify will update these RM Unify users and delete any RM Unify user that was provisioned from AD Sync and not updated.

Note: Run a 'resync with deletes' only if you have been advised to by the RM Cloud Support team. Incorrect use of the resync will result in the deletion of active RM Unify users and loss of data.

If you think a 'resync with deletes' will resolve an issue you have with the RM Unify users, please raise a service call with the RM Cloud Support team first and we will confirm this or suggest a different solution.

The latest version of RM Unify AD Sync v4 has an improved resync with delete behaviour. We recommend upgrading your existing installation to v4 before running resync with delete.

Requirements

How to run the 'resync with deletes' feature with RM Unify AD Sync
In the RM Unify AD Sync Config Tool, confirm that all the AD accounts you want provisioned into RM Unify are listed under an AD filter.
  1. On the server with RM Unify AD Sync installed, open the RM Unify AD Sync Config Tool.
Note: If you do not have a shortcut to the RM Unify AD Sync Config Tool, you can open it by double-clicking C:\Program Files(x86)\RM\RM Unify AD Sync\RM.Networks.IdentityManagement.ConfigTool.exe.
  2. Expand RM Unify Registration.
  3. Locate the name of your school and in the associated page, tick the 'On resync, delete any users in RM Unify that do not match an AD filter. This may also delete accounts in 3rd party apps' box.
  4. Click Resync.
  5. The resync will run and you will see that the status changes from 'Requested' to 'In Progress' and then to 'None Scheduled' once complete.

  1. Wait for the status to return to None Scheduled.
  2. RM Unify refreshes the user accounts for which it has received an update for via the resync and then completes a housekeeping task to delete any AD Sync-provisioned RM Unify accounts for which it has not received an update for. Depending on the total user count of the RM Unify establishment, the completion of this final housekeeping task may take up to one hour from when the resync with delete was initiated.

Checks

If you run a resync with delete and find that none of the RM Unify users provisioned from AD Sync have been deleted, then please check the Users container under each of your AD filters. There must be at least one user listed in order for the resync with delete to send delete messages to RM Unify.
