Chromebook users are prompted with the RM Unify logon page when using Google SSO URL
Published Date : 23 Dec 2015   Last Updated : 04 Oct 2024   Content Ref: TEC4920525

Symptoms

When users sign in to a Chromebook they are presented with the RM Unify logon page and after entering their Google Workspace email address and RM Unify password, are taken to a page titled 'Please re-enter your password to update your Chromebook profile'. The following is also true:

  1. Your RM Unify users are manually provisioned, or you are using AD Sync and users have changed their network password since installing.
  2. In your Google Workspace domain, Devices, Chrome, Settings, 'USER & BROWSER SETTINGS', Startup, you have configured the Homepage and 'Pages to Load on Startup' settings as one of the following:
    • https://<RMUnifyScope>.rmunify.com/sso/gsuite
    • https://<RMUnifyScope>.rmunify.com/sso/gafe
where <RMUnifyScope> is your RM Unify establishment's scope.

Cause

This can occur if the Single Sign-On setting in Device management, Chrome Management, User settings is set to 'Enable SAML-based Single Sign-On for Chrome Devices'. This setting does not need to be enabled for single sign on to RM Unify.

Procedure

To resolve this issue, follow the steps given below (refer the screenshot):

  1. Log on to your Google Workspace domain as an administrator user.
  2. Navigate to Devices, Chrome, Settings, 'USER & BROWSER SETTINGS'.
  3. Scroll down to the Security section, 'Single sign-on'. From the drop-down menu, select 'Disable SAML-based single sign-on for Chrome devices'.
  4. Under the 'Single sign-on' section, ensure that the setting is marked as 'Locally applied'.
Note: If the setting is marked as 'Inherited from Google default', select 'Enable SAML-based sign-on for Chrome devices' first, then select 'Disable SAML-based single sign-on for Chrome devices'.
  5. Save the changes by clicking Save.
