Symptoms
When you upload a .csv file of users, the error below is displayed: "Username cannot be changed by CSV upload".
Cause
You will see this error if either of the following are true:
You are trying to change the username of a user that was originally provisioned from Active Directory using RM Unify AD Sync. Please change the username on the network and allow RM Unify AD Sync to upload it.
You are trying to change the username of a user previously provisioned via CSV. You must use the Management Console to change the username. Please follow "How to change the username of a CSV user" below.
Your CSV contains usernames that consist of numbers only and begin with a zero (0), e.g. 0745778. Microsoft® Excel removed the preceding zero when you opened the .csv file. Please follow the 'How to maintain zeros in your CSV file' section below.
Procedure
How to change the username of a CSV user
In the RM Unify Management Console, click Users and find your user.
Click Actions, 'Change username'.
In the Username field, enter the new username.
Click Save.
How to maintain zeros in your CSV file
If you are not trying to change the username and have usernames that begin with a zero, then follow the steps below:
In the RM Unify Management Console, click 'Generate a CSV of all my RM Unify users'.
When prompted, select Save File and save to a temporary location.
Rename the downloaded file from .csv to .txt.
In Microsoft Excel, open the file. The Text Import Wizard window will open.
Click Next.
Tick the Comma box and click Next.
Highlight the Username column and click the Text button under Column data format.
Click Finish.
Edit the contents of the file as desired.
Click File, Save As and save the file as a .csv type.
Upload the .csv file to RM Unify as usual via the RM Unify Management Console.
