Summary
Explains why you are unable to delete an email address value for an RM Unify user.
Symptoms
In the RM Unify AD Sync Config Tool, you have defined the email override attribute within one or more AD filters. RM Unify AD Sync uses this attribute to upload the email addresses of users from AD. If you subsequently delete (i.e. blank entirely) the email address value for a user in AD, you find that the change is not uploaded to RM Unify. The RM Unify Management Console continues to show the last email address that was uploaded by RM Unify AD Sync.
Cause
RM Unify applies a default email address to provisioned users based on their RM Unify username. That is unless an alternative email address (an override) has been uploaded from RM Unify AD Sync or, in cases where you have chosen to opt in to bulk email address changes, has been set directly via the RM Unify Management Console. For example, an RM Unify user Student A will get a default email address as 'StudentA@schooldomain.co.uk' if an alternative email address has not been set.
Procedure
RM Unify AD Sync does not support moving back from override email addresses defined by the AD mail attribute to the default username based ones. Once an administrator has set an email address, they have to maintain it. You can, however, choose to opt in to the 'Bulk change email addresses' feature and manage email addresses of AD Sync-provisioned users directly from the RM Unify Management Console. Please refer to TEC8279830 in the Other Useful Articles section below.
In the example mentioned in the Cause section above, if you configured the RM Unify AD Sync Config Tool to upload an override email address of 'StudentA08@schooldomain.co.uk' for Student A, but later decide to revert it back to 'StudentA@schooldomain.co.uk', you can either:
In AD, change the mail attribute from 'StudentA08@schooldomain.co.uk' to 'StudentA@schooldomain.co.uk'.
Use TEC8279830, see Other Useful Articles section below, to opt in to the 'Bulk change email addresses' feature and use the RM Unify Management Console to edit the user's email address to 'StudentA@schooldomain.co.uk'.
Simply deleting or blanking the AD mail attribute does not result in the email address of Student A returning to 'StudentA@schooldomain.co.uk'.
