RM Unify AD Sync Configuration tool registration fails with log file entry "Could not load file or assembly"

Symptoms

When you try to register your establishment by clicking Register in the RM Unify Sync Configuration tool, the following error is displayed:

"Registration failed for xxxxx. Please check the log files for more details", where xxxx is the display name of your RM Unify registration.

On checking the most recent log file in C:\Program Files (x86)\RM\RM Unify AD Sync\LogFiles, you also see the error:

"Error testing credentials for Unify Login Unify registration () - System.ApplicationException: Unable to connect to RM Unify for ---> System.BadImageFormatException: Could not load file or assembly 'System.IdentityModel.Selectors, Version=3.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' or one of its dependencies. This assembly is built by a runtime newer than the currently loaded runtime and cannot be loaded".



Cause

This issue occurs on servers with a missing or corrupt installation of Microsoft® .NET Framework v3.5 SP1.


Requirements

.NET Framework v3.5 SP1 is a prerequisite for RM Unify AD Sync and RM Unify Password Filter.


Procedure

Install or reinstall .NET Framework v3.5 SP1. If you are unsure on how to do this, please refer to the RM Unify AD Sync Release Note in the Other Useful Articles section below.
