How to change the Microsoft 365 domain federated with RM Unify
Published Date : 18 Oct 2013   Last Updated : 03 Jul 2024   Content Ref: TEC3500833

Symptoms

You have federated Microsoft® 365™ with RM Unify and your RM Unify users have been provisioned. You have since decided to change the Microsoft 365 domain name and want to update the email addresses used by your RM Unify users to the new domain name.

Procedure

Where the new domain is in the same Microsoft 365 tenancy as the existing domain
  1. Add and verify your new domain within your Microsoft 365 tenancy. Please retain your existing domain until federation with the new domain has been completed. Your existing and new domains must be in the same tenancy.
  2. Raise a support call with the RM Unify Support team and advise that you want to change the Microsoft 365 domain name federated with RM Unify.
  3. If your RM Unify establishment is jointly federated to Google Workspace, advise whether you intend to change the Google-federated domain too.
  4. If you are using RM Unify AD Sync to provision users, advise if you have configured AD filters to upload an email address. We will then tell you when to update your email address attribute values.
  5. From the RM Unify app library, click the app tile of any other installed apps and check under the Privacy Info if they receive the RM Unify email address attribute. For any that do, contact the app vendor to check if they need to know in advance that the RM Unify email address value of users will be updating to a new domain name.
  6. We will process a domain name change request and confirm back when work has completed.

Where the new domain is in a different Microsoft 365 tenancy to the existing domain

This type of migration depends on a number of factors:

  • whether Microsoft 365 user accounts already exist in the destination domain
  • whether you are planning to migrate user data
  • whether your RM Unify establishment is jointly federated to Google

To book our RM Cloud Service Delivery team to complete the domain migration for you, please speak to your Sales representative on 01235 645 316 or email getintouch@rm.com, quoting this article.
