RM Unify - Issues when accessing the Education City app
Published Date : 14 Aug 2013   Last Updated : 02 Sep 2024   Content Ref: TEC3440727

Symptoms

Your RM Unify administrator has installed the Education City app to your Launch Pad, but when you click the tile you receive an error message:

"Your account has not been recognised. Please contact your provider to ensure the correct details are being passed through."

Or, upon clicking the EducationCity (M365), you see a Microsoft® 365™ window requesting that you enter your email address.

Cause

There is a mismatch between the user account data and\or establishment data held in RM Unify and that which is held by Education City.

Requirements

The expected behaviour of the Education City app is as follows:

  1. A user logs on to RM Unify and from the Launch Pad clicks the Education City tile.
  2. The user is taken to the school's Education City login page - this is discovered by RM Unify, passing the DfE code to Education City.
  3. The user then logs on using their Education City username and password.

The expected behaviour of the EducationCity (M365) app is as follows:

  1. A Super Admin, or Launch Pad admin, configures the EducationCity (M365) app with the RM Unify federated Microsoft 365 domain name.
  2. Each user then configures their Launch Pad tile with their RM Unify Microsoft 365 email address.
  3. The user clicks the tile on the Launch Pad and as they are already authenticated to Microsoft 365 (as Microsoft 365 is federated to RM Unify), and as the Microsoft 365 email address matches that held by Education City, they are automatically signed in to the app.

Checks

  • Make sure that you actually have an account in Education City. Log on as an admin user to check\create a user - https://ec1.educationcity.com/.
  • For the EducationCity (M365) app, ensure that the Microsoft 365 domain entered into the Other Settings tab, when viewing the app as a Super Admin or Launch Pad admin in the App Library, is the domain which is federated to RM Unify.
  • For the EducationCity (M365) app, make sure the Launch Pad tile is configured with the correct email address, and that the email address matches that held by the corresponding Education City account.
