Procedure

How to unfilter a site
You may receive an urgent request to unfilter a site. This is usually done by adding a rule to a filter list.

Example 1: Adding a single unfiltering rule

If google.com needs to be unfiltered, do as follows:

  1. Click the Web Access Policy icon in the menu bar at the top of any page.
  2. Click the 'Your rules' tab.
  3. If there is a 'List to edit' drop-down menu, select the filter list where you want to add the new rule. If your school only has one filter list, you won't be offered a choice.
  4. Click the 'Web rules' tab.
  5. Click Add Web Rule. The New Web Rule window is displayed.
  6. In the Rule Text field, enter the URL (web address) of the site you want to unblock, in this case google.com.
  7. For 'Type of rule', select 'Allow access to this web address'.
  8. In the Comment field, enter a descriptive comment such as Google.
  9. Click 'Create rule'.

Allow five to ten minutes for the rule to be applied.

Example 2: Adding a multiple unfiltering rule

Sometimes you will need to add multiple rules to unblock a site. Instead of adding all these as separate rules, it's more efficient to create a single rule that includes multiple lines.

For example, if YouTube needs to be unfiltered, multiple rules are required:

  6. In the Rule Text field, enter the URL (web address) of the site you want to unblock, in this case:
    • youtube.com
    • ytimg.com
    • c.youtube.com
    • s.ytimg.com
    • s.youtube.com
    • googlevideo.com
  7. For 'Type of rule' select, 'Allow access to this web address'.
  8. In the Comment field, enter a descriptive comment such as Youtube.
  9. Click 'Create rule'.

Allow five to ten minutes for the rule to be applied.
